  • Heroic Anub Phase 3 healing rundown  |  Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 5:26 AM
Quote from Tank Spot:

As Leeching Swarm will drain 30% of current health on this difficulty, healers will need to let the whole raid drift under 2000 health - ideally, under 1000. Failing to do this will prevent the damage from meeting the berserk timer. The minor healing needed to outpace the swarm should be designated by group before the encounter begins. Offtank healing needs to be limited as well. The intent is to hold them at roughly the 50% mark as often as possible, but err on the side of survival. The Anub’arak tank will need constant healing throughout the phase.

Each time Penetrating Cold is cast, DBM will place a unique icon on each target. Each icon will have a healer assigned to it, who will need to administer roughly 6000 healing to that player within 3 seconds, or the combined leeching swarm and Penetrating Cold damage will kill the victim. We found it was helpful particularly while learning the encounter to have holy paladins assigned to support a symbol by using holy shock on the first Penetrating Cold tick with Beacon of Light on the main tank. Throughout this, each healer needs to continue whatever other assignment they have, such as holy nova’ing their group or tank healing.

**Make sure you get in the habit of not healing people that don't need healing for this fight.  The dps check point we need to hit to get this kill is high enough, we don't need any additional healing to add to the damage that the raid needs to deal to Anub.  If you have to, down rank spells for that fight.  This fight won't be easy to do, but minimizing the healing we do will help a ton.**

Just a thought if only 6000 healing is required that is < 1 bubble.  I even think holy priests bubbles are big enough to handle that, but i really don't have numbers on holy bubbles.  Every priest however does have a disc spec it seems.  As we are going to be holy novaing since prayers are probably too big, the priests could probably group heal in disc spec, which covers 2,3 groups depending on how many priests we have.

For the other groups:
I know shamans if they cast chain on their group it is suppose to only heal group members?  Actually for shamans it is hard to control where chain is going.  One idea would be to try and seperate ou the shaman groups beyond chain jump range.  Only issue here would be making sure the tanks can still get the adds with the new group position.
Druids are overpowered as always and can finetune hps per member with number of hots.

Tanks:
Paladins

Course this is assuming the raid healing doesn't need to be ridiculous like it is in 10 man.  But I think the key thing will be to just ensure there is 0 cross healing.  This would include not using abilities like prayer of mending, or the druids instants hots to 5 raid members, ect.

Well from what I have taken from this is at 30% there shouldn't be any raid healing, just healing on penetrating cold people and the tanks, so chain heal and nourish and the priests aoe heals shouldn't be used at this point. We are trying to just let your health sit there since you can't die unless you get penetrating cold and don't get healed.

We need to keep the raid above some minimum amount so that they don't get instagibbed(accordint to the spellcheck this is a word?) with penetrating cold.

Nourish is a druid's equivalent to a priest's Flash Heal.  So, Nourish is actually something that would be very good.  I'm thinking you meant Wild Growth, which again, would still be relatively decent in an absolute pinch (NOT that it would be used on cooldown or every minute, but just if there's 2 or 3 people WAYY to low on health like < 1000 hp) since it is a smart heal and a small hot, it starts off healing for about 2k and gradually gets weaker as the duration runs on.

Downranking heals on this fight is almost going to have to happen just due to the very minimal amount of healing that needs to be done.  Anything over exactly what needs will have us meeting face to face with the enrage timer.

I found this information to be somewhat useful:

The lowest amount that Leeching Swarm can tick for is 250.

Leeching swarm is a difficult thing to control during phase 3.  Most guilds use very specific class abilities to counter the leeching swarm ticks without healing Anub’arak more than the raid can dps.  Our guild used shadow priest Vampiric Embrace, holy paladin glyphed Holy Light, paladin Judgment of Light, shaman glyphed Healing Stream Totem, the occasional priest holy nova, and a rank 2 Wild Growth to keep our raid members around 2k health during the fight

The link has a video attached to the bottom of it. Also a resto druid specced into HT is supposed to be helpful for this fight. As well, assigning 5 healers to each individual mark for Penetrating Cold.
